Great show... the recording?
At times it's very clean... others... lots of distortion.... I've heard better for this show.

The very best of Ventura!
Ventura is the only venue where I saw every show and this is probably the best! Especially the second set. Obviously there were other great Ventura shows like the first year, the next year and the last show but this is the pinnicle! Why, because of the amazing "Percussion" -> "Improvisation" (by the way there is no air in outer space) -> "Moring Dew"! Not to mention the "Dancin' in the Streets", "Midnight Hour" & thr only time I knowe of Brent ever did "I just want to make Love to You"! The rest of it was pretty good too.
Oh, and by the way, Garcia never left the stage between Not Fade Away and Brokedown Palace.

Great show from an often overlooked period
I really like this show, it has such a great feel to it. Jerry's got a bit of a cold going on and is pretty kermitty in places, but the space and the time are so strongly present its worth it.
If nothing else, listen to the Loser. The loser says it all.

This sbd sounds smoother and more balanced/rich than the other cole sbd (just based on streaming). Have yet to hear whole show...

not the SBD:PCM source
The sound quality of this file (and some edit points) is not the same, or as good, as my DAT. I'll try to find a way to make that available (also, the entire show fits in order on 2-80 min CD's).
4 stars for the show, my favorite of the year.

Yeah This Is Hot
Makes you want to get up and dance. Jerry was fine in 84, only later in the fall acoustic run he looked like a statue... he's real Here, here.
What is it with Day Job though man even at home I want to book to the men's room when they go into that
To reverse channels I'd suggest wearing headphones, backwards

cleaner than the other sbd
This is the one to get. It does have the same problem with Midnight Hour/Brokedown, which are from a different SBD source, pitched about a half step slow, and have exaggerated treble response. Those with editing software may want to fix this before burning.

Agree with last reviewer, this has always been one of my favorite boards from '84. Great show to boot. Wish I was there. Didn't make it to Ventura until '85 for the Saturday Night, Fire opener. (Wuth a Fire on the mountain in the background, I might add.)
I think this year is under-appreciated. All you hear about is Garcia's condition, which no doubt was horrific. I was 2nd row at Merriweather 6/27/84 and he barely opened his eyes the whole first set. But there was some great guitar playing along the way. Great year for Dew, Scarlet>Fire - they really did some great transition jams on this one, unlike the real short transitions in the post-'86 coma/post-In the Dark era. And they still jammed on Playin, Uncle John's, etc., unlike the late '80's (with the exception of fall '89). Get this one, 6/27, 4/27, 11/2, 7/13 and 15, 10/12, and go from there.
